Information on Donations

Did you know that the percentage of Americans donating to charity has hit an all-time low, and yet, the need is great.  Any help you can give is really important right now! 

 So why donate to Meerkerk Gardens?  The Gardens are located in Greenbank, WA , and we are open at 9 a.m. 7 days a week, every day of the year.  You can bring your whole family and your furry friend/s, leashed of course, and walk miles of the beautiful trails in the fresh air. If you have not found Meerkerk yet, you are missing a real gem, right here on Whidbey Island.  Help us keep the gates open by making a donation today! 

Use Your IRA – If you are 70 ½ or older, you are eligible for a great tax break.  You can give directly from a traditional IRA to Meerkerk without having to declare that amount as taxable income, as you would a regular IRA withdrawal.  Make sure that checks are made out not to you, but to Meerkerk.

 Give Assets – Instead of making a cash donation, why not donate in the form of shares of stock or mutual funds that have risen in value since you've owned them.  If you have held the shares for at least a year, you can give them away without having to pay tax on any capital gains.

These assets usually pass by “beneficiary designation.”  To designate Meerkerk as the beneficiary of such an asset, you should contact your insurance company or plan administrator and request a “change of beneficiary” form which you can complete and return to them.
